Healthy Resolutions for the New Year

The start of the New Year typically brings about resolutions of all types, with health being the focal point. While we ate, drank, and were merry throughout the holiday season, the New Year gives us that much needed reset. Whether your goal is to eat better or to be more active, we can all find ways to accomplish this.

Here are a few attainable ways in which we can all be healthier in 2023:

1. Drink More Water

Drinking water has a host of benefits that are essential to our health. Water helps us to digest food, regulates our temperature, and keeps our skin healthy, to name a few. While we have become accustomed to carrying bottled water wherever we go, most still fail to meet the recommended daily water intake. If you’re looking to get healthier this year, start by consuming more water. Set a reminder on your phone or consider purchasing a timestamp water bottle.

2. Regular Exercise

Exercise doesn’t have to be as a hard as we make it. A simple 20 minute walk (weather permitted) can be a great source of physical activity. In addition, many gyms offer incentives for starting a membership around the New Year. Fitness routines can also be found online for those who like to work out in the privacy of their own home. Whatever you decide, just get moving!

3. Quality Sleep

We all wish we could get more sleep but rarely does it happen. Between our busy schedules and distracting devices, sleep often feels like a figment of our imagination. Sleep, however, is more important than we think. Sleep helps our bodies to restore cells. Less sleep is linked to a host of health conditions such as high blood pressure, weight gain, a weak immune system and many others. How much sleep you need varies by age, but it is recommended to get between seven and ten hours of sleep each night.
