After months of uncertainty and proposals to keep the doors open, Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, are set to close within 30 days. Employees were notified Monday morning via email.

"Today, Prospect Medical Holdings made the extremely difficult decision to begin winding down operations across our Crozer Health facilities,” Prospect Medical Holdings (the hospitals owner) officials said in a statement. “Unfortunately, we were unable to reach a viable alternative.”

Starting Wednesday, patients will begin being diverted from the ER and inpatient admissions will cease. The timeline was revealed in bankruptcy filings by Prospect Medical Holdings. While major hospital operations will cease, ambulatory surgery and imaging centers in Brinton Lake, Broomall, Haverford and Media will remain open, according to Prospect.

Crozer Health is Delaware County's largest healthcare system. This closure will leave thousands of employees without a job and patients having to travel far for their medical care.
